Curriculum
Theo Zaffagnini, architect, graduated with honors from the University of Florence in 1993, where he subsequently obtained a Ph.D. in "Architectural Technology" in 1999. He is currently Associate Professor at the Department of Architecture of the University of Ferrara, where he teaches on both the Architecture and Industrial Product Design degree courses. In June 2023, he achieved the Italian National Scientific Qualification as Full Professor (Academic Recruitment field 08/C) of Design and technological planning of architecture. He was Vice-Coordinator of the National PhD Course in Architectural Technology and Deputy DA Coordinator and DA Program Supervisor of the International Doctorate in Architecture and Urban Planning (IDAUP) of the Department of Architecture in Ferrara. From Nov 1st, 2024 he's the Coordinator of the International Doctoral Course IDAUP. He has been Supervisor or Co-Supervisor of about 25 PhD theses in both national and international Ph.D. programs. He is currently a member of TekneHub, the Technopole of the University of Ferrara. His research activity focuses mainly on technological innovation in building processes and materials, on sustainable approaches to architecture on the restoration, renovation and reuse of historical buildings and on technological issues related to Smart Cities. He has collaborated in various research programs commissioned by public and private institutions and EU. Among these are the VILLAS project: "Villas, stately homes and castles: compatible use, valorization and creative management" - Community Initiative Interreg IIIB (2000-2006) CADSES 3B074 and the H2020 research project "INCEPTION - Inclusive Cultural Heritage in Europe through 3D semantic model" (2015-2019) (P.I. Prof. R. Di Giulio). He is reviewer, by invitation, of scientific journals of excellence (ANVUR) and member of Editorial and Director Boards of both national and international journals.
He is a member of the Italian Society of Technology (SITdA) where he is also a Delegate for Internationalisation (2023/2026).
