Monica Ghirotti is Full Professor in Engineering Geology at University of Ferrara since 2014.
She has a PhD in Earth Science from the University of Parma (1992), a Master in “Land and Environment Protection ", School of Engineering, Politecnico of Torino, Italy (1992) and a Master in "Methodology in Laboratory research", University of Modena (1988). Research Fellow from 1995 to 2005 and Associate Professor from 2005 to 2014 at the University of Bologna. Her research experience is mainly on rock and earth slope stability in Alpine and Apennine areas. In particular, her principal fields of investigation regard numerical modelling and geotechnical characterisation of rock and earth slopes; geomechanical characterization of rock masses, numerical modelling of underground excavations and soil-rock landslides; real-time monitoring of landslides, particularly referred to hydrogeological conditions and GPS techniques for superficial displacements detection. She has frequently collaborated with government agencies, National Research Council and regional authorities. She has taken part in national (PRIN) and international program researches (CEE, CERG). She is author of more than 60 scientific papers.
She was Local Responsible of 2 National Research Program (PRIN 2001 and 2003) and participated to PRIN 2005 in the Research Unit of Padova University. Responsible for the University of Bologna of "GeoNatHaz" an EU-Canada co-operation project in higher education, training and youth funded by EACEA/01/08 Program UE-Canada 2009.
She performs activity of peer reviewing for many international journals.
