Curriculum
Marcello Balzani architect, Ph.D. in “Architectural Drawing” Scientific Coordinator of the TekneHub Laboratory, Director of the DIAPReM Center, Department of Architecture, University of Ferrara is a full professor at the Department of Architecture, University of Ferrara and Referent of the CEAR-10/A Design area. Since 1998, he has also been responsible for the DIAPReM Research Center, University Research Center for the Development of Integrated Automatic Procedures for the Restoration of Monuments. He is the author of more than five hundred publications and research products, most of which concern architectural and urban surveying and the development of advanced 3D laser scanner techniques for the conservation of cultural heritage. In particular, his research activity concerns the definition of computer procedures for the survey and analysis of historic centers and monumental buildings. In recent years he has been involved in interdisciplinary research where he has made significant contributions in the definition and development of procedures and techniques that can enable close connections between 3D surveying and modeling, restoration, and structural analysis of complex architecture.

He has been and is scientifically responsible for several dozens of national and international research projects involving archaeological areas (Rome, Pompeii, Benevento, Perugia, Agrigento, Marzabotto) in monumental contexts (Pisa Piazza dei Miracoli, Michelangelo in Florence, .n Battista Alberti in Mantua, Ferrara, Florence and Rimini and abroad (Malta, Mexico, Egypt, Brazil and India). (From 2015 to 2019), he is scientific coordinator of a research unit within the project INCEPTION - Inclusive Cultural Heritage in Europe through 3D semantic model”, funded by the EU under the Work Programme Europe in a changing world - inclusive, innovative and reflective Societies (Call - Reflective Societies: Cultural Heritage and European Identities,
Reflective-7-2014, Advanced 3D modelling for accessing and understanding European cultural assets). -Since 2018 he has been the main coordinator of the industrial research project InSPiRE - Integrated technologies for smart buildings and PREdictive maintenance funded under the Por Fesr Emilia-Romagna 2014-2020 research program. The project involves 3 universities (UNIFE; UNIBO; UNIMORE), 1 national research institute (ISTEC-CNR), 1 innovation center and 7 SMEs, start-ups and Public Administration.
