Curriculum

Architect and Ph.D. with distinction in Urban Planning [CEAR-12/b], as of September 1, 2022, she has been a Tenure-Track Researcher (type B) at the Department of Architecture, University of Ferrara (UNIFE). Since June 2021, she has been qualified to hold the position of Associate Professor in the academic recruitment field 08/F1 Urban and Regional Planning and Design. A Scholar of Urban Planning since 2013, she coordinates the activities of CITER, the Research and Design Laboratory for Urban and Regional Planning at the Department of Architecture, UNIFE. From 2016 to 2021, she served as a Research Fellow in Urban Planning at the Department of Architecture and TekneHub UNIFE and was a Visiting Scholar at the University of Barcelona and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen (having won competitive research grants). Since 2016, she has consistently engaged in teaching activities at the Department of Architecture and, from 2019 to 2023, at the Department of Morphology Surgery and Experimental Medicine UNIFE, in addition to teaching at various prestigious Italian universities (postgraduate Master’s and Doctoral courses) and conducting training programs for the Emilia-Romagna Region. She is also a Visiting Professor in Greece (Technical University of Crete, School of Architecture, 2018–2023), France (IATU Université Bordeaux Montaigne, 2019; ENSAP Bordeaux, 2019), and Spain (MAca Master in Communication of Architecture, UPM Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid, 2024). Dorato organizes, coordinates, and teaches in numerous workshops and summer schools in Italy and abroad (Finland, Greece, Brazil, China, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico). She is the Erasmus Coordinator for the Architecture Degree Program and Delegate for Internationalization in Education for the Department of Architecture, UNIFE, where she is also PhD Programme Supervisor for the international IDAUP Doctorate in Architecture and Urban Planning and a member of the Academic Board. Representing UNIFE, she is part of the inter-university working group on Mobility within the RUS Sustainable Universities Network. As of June 2024, she is a member of the National Board of the Italian Society of Urban Planners (SIU). She actively participates in several scientific committees, national and international research and working groups on themes including active and sustainable mobility, the relationship between urban planning and public health, and strategies for urban and regional regeneration in response to climate change and socio-demographic transformations. She is the author of more than 65 scientific publications, a member of various editorial boards and scientific journal series, and serves as a reviewer for numerous Italian and international journals in the Area 08 field. Elena is fluent in three foreign languages: English, Spanish, and French.
