Prof. Andrea Rinaldi

 

Architect and  Professor of Architectural and Urban Composition at the Department of Architecture, University of Ferrara, since 2005. He has been teaching Architectural Design since the academic year 1996/97. His research and experimental activities focus on architectural design and the relationships between architecture, sustainability, energy, and economics.

Since 2006, he has directed several Postgraduate Specialization Courses and numerous training programs on the intersection of architecture and energy. From 2006 to 2016, he was a member of the Collegiate Board of the PhD in Architectural Technology at the University of Ferrara, University of Bologna, Roma Tre, and the Free University of Bolzano. From 2016 to 2021, he served on the Academic Board of the International PhD in Architecture and Urban Planning (IDAUP).

Since 2007, he has been the Editor-in-Chief of Architettare, an architecture magazine published by the Foundation of Architects of Reggio Emilia (Pacini Editore, Pisa). From 2009 to 2014, he was the Director of the Architecture-Energy Research Center at the University of Ferrara’s Department of Architecture, becoming Deputy Director in May 2014.

From 2013 to 2014, he was a member of the Expert Pool for the European EpoUrban project, focused on the architectural and energy retrofit of collective residential buildings in Bolzano.

Between 2014 and 2017, he served on the Scientific Committee of Recupero e Conservazione (De Lettera Editore), and since 2014, he has been a member of the Scientific Committee of Infobuild Energia (Infoweb Editore).

In 2014, he exhibited at the Venice Architecture BiennaleInternational Architecture Exhibition, in the Italian Pavilion, Innesti-Grafting section.

From 2016 to 2017 and from 2019 to the present, he has been the President of the Order of Architects PPC of Reggio Emilia.

Since 2020, he has been the Scientific Director of Rigenera – Architecture Festival, winner of the Italian Ministry of Culture's Festival of Architecture grant, with four editions (2020, 2022, 2023, 2025).

He is a frequent speaker at conferences and symposia, a jury member for architectural competitions, and the author of numerous articles, book chapters, and edited volumes, including:

In 1997, he co-founded Laboratorio di Architettura with Roberta Casarini, a research and design studio based in Reggio Emilia, through which he has won numerous architectural competition awards.
