EDUCATION AND ACADEMIC COURSE:
Prof. Carlo Alberto Volta was born in Ferrara on March 4, 1963
He currently holds the position of Full Professor MED/41 at the Department of Translational Medicine of the University of Ferrara
Since 2013 he has been Director of the section of Anesthesia and Intensive Care of the S. Anna University Hospital of Ferrara
Since 2013 he has been Director of the School of Specialization in Anesthesia and Resuscitation of the University of Ferrara
On July 20, 1988 he graduated in Medicine and Surgery with the highest score (110/110 cum laude)
In November 1990 he won the competition for a position as University Researcher and was confirmed in that position on 08/07/1995
In November 1992 he specialized in Anesthesia and Resuscitation with the highest score (50/50 cum laude)
In November 2006 he was called as a associate professor for MED/41, Anesthesiology
On 28/03/2017 he acquired the licence for becoming Full Professor for the sector MED/41 Anesthesiology
On 08/05/2018 he is called as Full Professor for the MED/41 Anesthesiology
In November 2021 he is appointed, by rectoral decree, as Pro-Rector for Health.
From 1 June 2023 he is appointed Director of the Emergency Department of the University Hospital of Ferrara

RESEARCH ACTIVITY AT ITALIAN OR ABROAD INSTITUTIONS
From July 1993 to July 1995 he worked at the Meakins-Christie Laboratories, McGill University, Montreal, Canada, having won the position of “Research Fellow” at the aforementioned University under the direct supervision of Prof. J. Milic-Emili, dealing with multiple aspects of pulmonary physiopathology. At the same time, he worked at the Intensive Care Units of the Royal Victoria Hospital and the Montreal Chest Hospital under the supervision of Prof. Peter Goldberg.

COORDINATION AND/OR MANAGEMENT ROLES
Since 2010 he has been assigned the professional role of particular qualification for Managing Intensive Care patients.
In January 2013 he has been assigned the Operating Unit Module “Management of Intensive Care”
Since April 2013 he has been Director of the Section of Anesthesia and Intensive Care
Since October 2013 he has been Director of the School of Specialization in Anesthesia and Intensive Care.
Since 2015 he has been Deputy Director of the University Department of Translational Medicine
From 2014 to 2016 he was a member of the Research Council of the University of Ferrara
He is currently responsible for the Resuscitation area for SIAARTI
He is part of the Scientific Committee for ESAIC
