Full Professor of Medicinal Chemistry with a demonstrated history of collaborations in the industrial research. Skilled in Research and Development (R&D), Cosmetic Sciences, Life Sciences, Biotechnology and Medicinal Chemistry. Strong research professional, post doc at Brigham Young University, Department of Biochemistry, Provo, Utah, under the guidance of Professor Morris J. Robins.

He was Research Associate (1987-88) at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (Bioorganic Section) of Brigham Young University, Utah, USA (Chair Prof. Morris Robins). Author of over 200 scientific publications on peer reviewed Journals and about 18 patents and applications. He was awarded with the prize "Giacomello" for research, issued by the Division of Medicinal Chemistry Italian Chemical Society. The areas where the research work is carried out concern the health products, primarily natural substances: isolation, analysis, synthesis, formulation and characterization. Particular emphasis is given to pathological processes involved with degenerative processes based on oxidative stress, microbial processes and cancer. Researches were conducted in collaboration with leading research groups (Brigham Young University, University of Cagliari, University of Leuven, University of Montpellier, Karolinska Institut, Novartis Research Institut, Glaxo-Wellcome-SKF), the Catholic University in Rome, Gemelli Hospital, the University of Bordeaux, the University of Jena, the University of Bologna, the Maggiore Hospital in Bologna, the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology. This activity led to the foundation (2003), together with Silvia Vertuani, of the University Spinoff Company Ambrosialab, where he is past President. Teaching is on the following courses: medicinal chemistry; preparation, extraction and synthesis of drugs; Analysis of herbal products, food and cosmetics; Functional Cosmetics, Nutraceuticals, Nutritional Supplements; Chemistry of Natural Cosmetic Products; Preparation of Biotech drugs; Biotechnological drugs and health product; Waste Technology; Bioremediation. It was also Founder and Director of the Master Degree in health products from 2001-2005 and he was Deputy Rector, years 1998-2008, to Patent, Technology Transfer and Spinoff. He was Director of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences (2009-2012), and President of the School of Pharmacy University of Ferrara (2013-2016). He is currently Director of the Master Degree in Science and Technology of Cosmetics (COSMAST) founded in 1980 (the first in Europe) and Coordinator of the degree in Pharmacy.
