Curriculum

Theo Zaffagnini, architect, graduated Cum Laude from the University of Florence in 1993, where he subsequently obtained a PhD in ‘Architectural Technology’ in 1999. He is currently Associate Professor at the Department of Architecture of the University of Ferrara, where he teaches on both the Architecture and Industrial Product Design degree courses. In 2023, he was awarded the National Qualification to become a Professor of the I Fascia for Competition Sector 08/C1. He was Vice-Coordinator of the National PhD in Architectural Technology and Deputy DA Coordinator and DA Program Supervisor of the International Doctorate Course in Architecture and Urban Planning (IDAUP) of the Department of Architecture in Ferrara, of which he is the Coordinator from 1 November 2024. He has been Tutor/Supervisor or Co-Supervisor of about 25 PhD theses in both national and international PhD programmes. He is currently a member of TekneHub, the Technopole of the University of Ferrara. His research activity mainly focuses on technological innovation in building processes and materials, on sustainable approaches to architecture and on the restoration, renovation and reuse of historical buildings and on technological issues related to Smart Cities. He has collaborated in several research programmes commissioned by public and private institutions and in Europe. Among these are the VILLAS project: ‘Villas, stately homes and castles: compatible use, valorisation and creative management’ - Community Initiative Interreg IIIB (2000-2006) CADSES 3B074 and the H2020 research project ‘INCEPTION’ Inclusive Cultural Heritage in Europe through 3D semantic model’ (2015-2019) (Resp. Scient. Prof. R. Di Giulio). He is Reviewer (by invitation) of scientific journals of excellence ANVUR and member of Editorial Boards of both national and international journals. He is a member of the Italian Society of Technology (SITdA) where he is also Delegate for Internationalisation 2023/2026.
