SCIENTIFIC AND RESEARCH SKILLS AND COMPETENCES
The research interests deal with several activities involving the crystal chemistry of minerals and synthetic materials. These studies are carried out by coupling conventional physical methods in mineralogy and solid state sciences (XRPD, electron microscopy, EDS/WDS microanalysis) and advanced spectroscopic methods as: EPR, XAS (@ ESRF, Grenoble), Mössbauer (@ Univ. Salzburg), SQUID magnetometry.
Recent research lines deal with the health effects of dispersion in air of solid pollutants (crystalline silica, asbestos, urban dusts), environmental effects in As-contaminated lands, the synthesis and characterisation of minero-mimetic materials (quaternary sulfides) for the realisation of new nanostructured devices for solar energy conversion. In the last years, he dedicated also effort in the study of the technological answer to the limited availability of the georesources.
