Valerio Caleffi received a Ph.D. degree in Engineering Sciences from the University of Ferrara in 2003. He is an Associate Professor of Hydraulics at the Department of Engineering of the University of Ferrara, Italy. His research interests are mainly devoted to the numerical modeling of the 1D and 2D Shallow Water Equations, with fixed and mobile bed, applied to engineering problems (e.g., two-phase-solid and liquid-free surface flows with intense sediment transport; free surface subcritical and supercritical flows in bends; Dam break modeling; channel networks). His interest is also devoted to classical problems in Hydraulics (e.g., theoretical investigation on the hydraulic jump). His expertise is focused on high-order numerical schemes (e.g., WENO and Runge-Kutta discontinuous Galerkin schemes). His recent research activity regards the application of numerical models to the solution of problems of biological fluid mechanics.
