-Principal Investigator of the Research Grant titled “Evaluation of the clinical efficacy of pharmacological and physical devices in the prevention of deep vein thrombosis in patients with chronic venous insufficiency,” won by Dr. Rocco Stano, started on 03/01/2010 and completed on 10/31/2012.
-Author, with Dr. Alessio Cariani, of the PATENT: Alginate Gel for the dressing of skin wounds (Patent No. 102019000022803 – Year of grant 2021).

Main research topics: Initially, research was oriented towards the use of some synthetic and resorbable suture materials, new original biodegradable vascular prostheses, and the experimentation of the efficacy of some hemorheological drugs. These studies were conducted on animals of different species (rats, rabbits, pigs) housed in appropriate facilities located within the S. Anna Hospital of Ferrara.
Subsequently, research interest shifted to the major problem of post-operative infection with some interesting studies on peritoneal lavage and antibiotic prophylaxis through observations made on rats and rabbits. In addition to vascular anastomoses, intestinal anastomoses were also of considerable interest, with some interesting studies carried out on pigs, aimed at investigating the indications and limits of the use of some biodegradable rings capable of creating a pressure intestinal suture. The good results of our experimentation contributed in the early 1990s to the subsequent use of the same rings also in humans.
He collaborated, as responsible for the execution of the study, in an experiment aimed at determining the "Variations in the distribution of intestinal polyamines in rats undergoing partial colectomy."
He participated in a multicenter study aimed at evaluating the clinical efficacy of Ketoprofen in the control of postoperative pain.
He collaborated in a multicenter study aimed at the clinical experimentation of resorbable suture threads (Maxon) in vascular surgery, applied in double-blind on humans (according to the rules applied by the University Ethics Committee of Ferrara and the S. Anna Hospital of Ferrara).
He participated in a study protocol, conducted in double-blind, whose purpose was to verify the influence of Picotamide on the incidence of cardio-vascular accidents in patients with peripheral arteriosclerotic vasculopathy.
He collaborated on a study protocol aimed at evaluating the clinical efficacy of Heparin in post-phlebitic syndrome or chronic venous insufficiency.
He collaborated on a study protocol aimed at evaluating the clinical efficacy of L-Carnitine in arteriopathic patients at stage II.
Of considerable importance are also some studies on therapeutic approaches to the advanced stages of chronic venous insufficiency of the lower limbs and lymphedema of the limbs; they range from the experimentation of original surgical techniques such as external lymphatic drainage to the network or lipolymphoaspiration, to the use of new molecules by general or mesotherapeutic route. Of considerable clinical interest is undoubtedly the endovascular approach to valvular venous insufficiency.
Thoracic pathology has also often been the object of clinical interest: noteworthy is the use of video-assisted mediastinoscopy, the treatment of post-operative bronchial fistulas, the video-assisted thoracoscopic treatment of spontaneous pneumothorax, mini-invasive video-assisted thoracic sympathectomy.
He has also shown a profitable interest in new mini-invasive surgical techniques at the abdominal level, reaching valid maturation and good manual skills so as to be able to apply them with considerable benefit also in emergency: several in this sense the evaluations on the effectiveness of these methods in the course of acute abdomen.
In the last period, his attention has focused on pathologies of surgical interest in emergency, with particular predilection for traumatic pathology.
