Born in Codigoro (Ferrara) on July 17, 1958.
Graduated in Architecture from IUAV - University Institute of Architecture in Venice, and earned a Ph.D. from the University of Rome "La Sapienza." He is a Full Professor of Urban Design at the University of Ferrara, Department of Architecture, where he has been addressing urban and landscape issues for 30 years. As a professional, he developed various urban plans and redevelopment projects; since 1999, he has devoted himself exclusively to academic research and teaching. Before settling in Ferrara, he lived in several cities, including Rome and Paris, the latter becoming one of his main research topics. In addition to Ferrara, he has taught courses in France (Lille, Paris), China (Chengdu), Cuba (Havana), and Brazil (São Paulo). He has also given lectures and participated in seminars, workshops, and summer schools at numerous Italian and international universities. At the University of Ferrara, he served as Director of the University Center for International Development Cooperation, which led him to work in various cities, including Tunis, Saint Louis du Sénégal, Havana, Quito, and São Paulo. He has published numerous books, book chapters, and articles in scientific journals, both independently and in collaboration with other colleagues, on topics related to theoretical aspects of urban planning, urban regeneration challenges, and water-related territories.
