SUMMARY
Michele Morsilli is an Associate Professor at the University of Ferrara (Italy), with a MA (1993) and PhD (1999) in Carbonate Sedimentology from Bologna University.
His research is focused about the stratigraphic-sedimentological features of meso-Cenozoic carbonate successions with field work in many places such as Italy (Apulia Carbonate Platform, Dolomites, Lessini Shelf, Ligurian Basin, Sardinia), Spain (Balearic Islands, Pyrenees and Iberian Basin), Caribbean (Aruba and Curacao), Etiopia (Negele area), Egypt (Red Sea), Iran (Zagros area), Oman, Saudi Arabia.
Research interests include carbonate depositional systems, facies analysis, stratigraphic evolution and depositional architecture of Mesozoic and Cenozoic systems. Actually, is involved in a research about the role of internal waves in the sedimentary records and about paleogeographic distribution of carbonate platforms during the Cretaceous, Paleogene and Neogene.
He has done numerous collaborations with many researchers from Italian and foreign universities and has presented the results of his research at national and international conferences. He has been lecturing and advising student research since 2000 and has organized numerous carbonate field trips within Italy, Spain and Red Sea.
In the last 5 years, he has also worked as carbonate sedimentologist consultant.
He is a Nautilus tutor since 2008 for field course M59- Balearic Islands, and I49-Salento, for petroleum geologists.
