Marco Stefani received a Ph. Degree (Dottorato di Ricerca) in 1989, with a sedimentological thesysis. He then worked at the Oxford University (GB), the Johns Hopkins University of Baltimore (MD), the Caribbean Marine Research Center (Bahamas), and the I.F.P. (Rueil Malmaison, Paris), on Mesozoic and Quaternary stratigraphy and environmental reconstruction. Since 1994, he works at the Earth Sciences Department of the Ferrara University, where teaches the classes of Energy Sources and Alluvial Plain Geology. His research work has been focused on Mesozoic and Quaternary stratigraphy and palaeoenvironmental reconstruction of Southern Alpine, Po Plain and Adriatic areas. He also works on the provenance and use of lithic materials in the Po Plain historic architecture. He supervised the geological mapping of the official geological sheet # 187 Codigoro, in southern portion of the Po Delta, and is now publishing the geological map of the Ferrara region. He guided two excursion for the 32th International Geological Congress, one of them on the lower Po Plain stratigraphy. He worked ad the archaeological excavation, environmental reconstruction and museum presentation of a Roman necropolis developed on the main Po Delta channel of the time. He joined an international project team proposing an urban planning for Ferrara. He presently developed a join research effort with the Architecture Department of the Ferrara University, on the environmental evolution, urban growth and building lattice evolution of the Ferrara historic centre. He works on the environmental impact assessment of engineering and urban planning project in Italy. He acts as referee for international scientific journal and is author of more then 120 scientific communications and papers.
