Research Areas
A) Advanced surveying of monuments and critical analysis of survey data through the disciplinary framework of drawing. In this field, she has worked on:
• The "form-measure" relationships between theoretical and real models of historical architecture
• The construction of perspective in Renaissance Ferrara
• The relationships between astronomical geometries and architecture
B) Architectural drawing as a design and communicative tool in the 1930s
C) Multimedia communication of the complex and stratified contents of architectural surveying, following the sequence: survey, model, digital musealization
D) The history of scientific (astronomy) and iconographic representation
Her research integrates advanced survey technologies and data analysis tools (laser scanner, total station, digital photogrammetry) to construct theoretical hypotheses that need to be tested on case studies with comparable characteristics, such as period, typology, or patronage.
She has authored over 152 publications, including journal articles, conference proceedings, book chapters, edited volumes, and monographs.
She has delivered approximately 110 conference presentations at international, national, and local events. Notable among these are lectures at the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Paris (2009), the National Academy of the Lincei (2000 and 2012), and the International Expert Meeting on Astronomical Heritage and Sacred Places, Gran Canaria (2018), Canary Islands, Spain, as part of UNESCO World Heritage Centre initiatives.
Teaching Activities
Her teaching focuses on surveying (direct and advanced methods), traditional representation techniques, descriptive geometry, digital drawing, and the fundamentals of architectural and design drawing. She has taught 74 courses as a tenured professor at the University of Ferrara or as a visiting/contract professor at the Universities of Florence and the Polytechnic University of Milan.
She is also the course teacher for "Advanced Surveying: 3D Survey and Documentation Methodologies for Archaeological Evidence and Paleosurfaces", within the International Erasmus Mundus Master in Quaternary and Prehistory.
