Curriculum

Maddalena Coccagna (Bologna, 1972) lives and works in Ferrara, where she’s member of the Association of Architects since 1999.

□        Since 2010, she is Researcher at the TekneHub of the Technopole of Ferrara, High Technology Network Emilia-Romagna, in the field of supporting SMEs in the Refurbishment, Restoration and Valorisation of the Cultural Heritage. The Laboratory is based at the Department of Architecture, University of Ferrara and it’s sponsored by: the region, the University, the Municipality and the Province of Ferrara and supported by the European Fund for Regional Development (POR FESR 2007-2013). Within the TekneHub she is also advisor for the Quality System, Organization manager and Responsible for training activities.

□        From 2005 to 2010, she has been Lecturer on “Building Assessment Techniques” at the Faculty of Architecture of Ferrara, where she graduated with honour in 1998 (tutors: prof. Roberto Di Giulio, architect, and prof. Ippolito Pizzetti, landscape designer).

□        PhD in Architectural Technology Ferrara (XV cycle, 2000_2002), with a thesis on “Assessment Techniques to evaluate the affordability of the housing redevelopment strategies” (tutor: prof. Roberto Di Giulio). Since 2009 she is member of the PhD Board in Technology of the Faculty of Architecture, University of Ferrara.

□        She has been appointed Research Assistant in Architectural Technology for about seven years (from 2000 to 2008), in the main field of technical evaluation methods, building affordability, building maintenance & refurbishment, valorisation of historic buildings and environments.

□        In 2011, she taught “Passive design & Day-lighting in buildings” (50 hours, in English) at the Faculty of Architecture of Ferrara, in collaboration with prof. Matthew Woodruff of the School of Construction of the BCIT of Vancouver (Canada).

□        She performs a continuous national and international research activity, both within the University or on behalf of public and private companies, dealing in particular with all issues related to technical innovation, building recovery and maintenance, accessibility & design-for-all, job-related health and safety procedures.

□        Since 1995, she’s member of the LEM, Laboratory of Maintenance and Construction Management and Environment of the Department of Architecture.

□        Since 1999 she has a specific qualification and continuous upgrading on Building Health and Safety (National Decree 81/08) and, since 2007, on Fire Prevention Design (Law 818/84). In both of these disciplines, she is also trainers for students, public bodies and technicians.

□        She is a member of working groups co-funded by national funds MURST 60%, PRIN and FAR (continuously from 1995 to 2011), research groups supported by regional funds (Larco Lab: 2006_07, Icos_Larco Lab: 2008_09) and international research groups funded by the EU (Brite Euram 4670: 1997_00, IFD Building: 2000_03, Villas: 2004_06, Sure-Fit: 2006_08).

□        Since 2006, on behalf of the Faculty of Architecture of Ferrara, she manages the international agreement with the BCIT of Vancouver (Canada) and the RAIC (Canadian Association of Architects). According to that, she coordinates and develops courses, seminars and summer schools, in English, in the field of restoration, innovative technologies, sustainability and design.

□        In 2007_08, she has been coordinator of the Qualification Course of Fire Prevention Design (Law 818/84), authorized by the Italian Ministry of the Interior and on behalf of the Foundation Board of Architects of Ferrara. She organized technical seminars within the same field in 2008_09 and, in 2010_11, and 2013 she coordinates new Qualification Courses of Fire Prevention Design, on behalf of the College of Industrial Engineers of Ferrara.

□        Since 2010 she is member of the working group "Yard-alert on road construction site", which operates in the Province of Bologna under a memorandum of understanding between all the bodies with the duty of assessing construction sites and workplaces (Health Dept., the Territorial Directorate of Labour, Provinces, Municipalities, etc). In 2012 the TekneHub and the Health Dept of Ferrara are extending this protocol and its related pilot project into the Province of Ferrara.

□        Since 2011, she coordinates technical seminars (authorized by the Ministry of the Interior) mandatory for the upgrading of fire prevention designers, according to the national Decree 05.08.2011.

□        Since 2011, on behalf of the TekneHub and of the University of Ferrara, she is the scientific advisor of a three-year MOU with the Dept of Health of Ferrara, focused on training and research activities on health and safety.

□        Since 2009, on behalf of the Department of Architecture and of the TekneHub, she organises professional upgrading seminars (qualified Law 81/08) in the field of architecture innovation, health and safety management for workplaces and building yards.

□        Since 2011, she is the scientific coordinator of the Summer School "Recovery of the Past to Create a More Sustainable Future", a course for architects accredited by the RAIC (Canadian Association of Architects).

□        Since 2012, on behalf of TekneHub and University of Ferrara, she is scientific advisor of a three-year MOU with the Province, the Municipality and the Dept of Health of Ferrara, focused on providing training and research activities about health and comfort in buildings and environments and on safety in workplaces. Since 2012 this MoU include the National Institute for Job Safety Insurance (INAIL).

□        Since 2012, on behalf of TekneHub and University of Ferrara, she is scientific advisor of a three-year MOU with the FORMEDIL Emilia-Romagna, the regional office of the national association of Construction Professional Schools, Builders and building labor unions, focused on providing training and research activities about the regional innovation in the building industry and fostering the post-earthquake reconstruction.

□        Since 2012 she’s member of the Technical Committee of S&CANTE, a regional project focused on costs for safety in the building field (including human and health costs), funded by the National Ministry for Labour and Social Policies (2012/2013).

□        She is author and co-author of numerous essays and articles in national magazines and books and, since 2008, she works with the publisher LeMonnier (Mondadori Education) in the updating and writing of textbooks about building technology and safety, intended to secondary schools and technical colleges.

□        Architect since 1999, she works in particular as a designer, consultant for management and maintenance plans, for survey and valorisation of historic buildings and refurbishing workplaces subject to specific health standards, techniques or preventive fires laws.
