Lisa Volpe graduated at University of Ferrara in October 2006 in "Technologies for the Cultural Heritage" (LT, 110/110 cum laude) and in March 2009 in "Conservation and diagnostic of Modern and Contemporary Artworks” (LS, 110/110 cum laude). In March 2013, she achieved, at University of Ferrara, the title of Ph.D. in "Earth Sciences" (2010 -2012) with additional certification of Doctor Europaeus, defending a Thesis entitled "Earth science and Modern - Contemporary Art: fingerprints for the safeguard of artworks in view elegant of arts transportation" (Excellent evaluation).
Since February 2011, she has research fellowship at TekneHub – Laboratory of Technopole of Ferrara University on characterization of materials (pigment, mortar, binder, etc.) used for artworks (frescoes, mural painting, oil painting, etc.) and historical buildings (brick, mortar, etc.) in order to evaluate the state of conservation and to support restoration projects.
Meanwhile, since 2012 to today, the activities of search have been focused on the analysis of artificial pigments and on the study of characteristics that, identified at microscopic level by a multi-analytical approach (physics-chemical-mineralogical analysis, image processing, etc.), allow to propose a solution for the safeguard of artworks during their transportation. The proposed procedure has been tested both on samples and on whole artworks, becoming an useful support for dating studies and search for artistic attribution, currently in progress on the analyzed works.
