Laura Bafile graduated cum laude in Italian Dialectology at the University of Florence, and obtained her Doctorate at the University of Florence in 1993.

She tought General Linguistis at the University of Amsterdam (1997-98) and in the Universities of Firenze, Foggia and Ferrara (1999-2005).

Since 2005 she is associate professor of general linguistics at the University of Ferrara.

She directs the Course "Laurea Magistrale" Foreign literatures and Languages and is a member of the editorial board of the journal Annali Online - Lettere of the Universiy of Ferrara.
Her research focuses mainly on theoretical phonology and the interface between phonology and morpho-syntax. In particular, she investigates the nature and the internal structure of segments and the cognitive organisation of phonological information, syllabic structure and phonological properties of function words and clitics, especially referred to Italian varieties.
