Respiratory Pathophysiology
High Altitude Medicine and Hypoxia
Pulmonary Rehabilitation, in particular Exercise Training for subjects suffering from chronic respiratory diseases.

RESEARCH ACTIVITY
From the beginning of my research acitivity, I have worked primarily in the field of Respiratory Pathophysiology.
In 1980 I took part as young researcher to a Scientific and Mountaineering Expedition to Mt Aconcagua (Argentina) to study the effect of high aktitude on bronchial hyperresponsiveness in asthmatic subjects.
From that moment, I started to investigate the pulmonary function at high altitude in both lowlanders and high altitude residents.
I carried out research projects on these topics at Pyramid Laboratory in Nepal (5050 M) and Capanna Regina Margherita (Italian Alps, 4559 M)in 1991-1992-1994-1996- 2004- 2006-2008-2011-2013)
2000-2010 in charge of the Medicine and Physiology Research project of the Ev-K2-CNR Committee, an autonomous association, which promotes scientific and technological research in mountain areas.
2010-present in charge of the medical project “Respiratory and Cardiovascular Health in mountain population exposed to indoor pollution”, one of the working project of SHARE (Stations at High Altitude for Research on the Environment) promoted by the Ev-K2-CNR Committee.
In the meantime, I was continuing research on Exercise Training for patients suffering from chronic respiratory diseases.

The organization and coordination of research projects and work in the outpatients clinic and in the laboratory of respiratory function has allowed to develop good organizational skills and competences
Previous research experience helped develop a remarkable capacity to work in team even in multicultural environments and in difficult conditions (i.e. high altitude)

To improve my skills I also attended two courses organized by the University Hospital of Ferrara:

2004:course on managing work groups and on conflict management in working groups
2011 course "from Manager to Leader"
