- 1981: Graduation with honours in Chemistry at the University of Ferrara.

 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCES

- April 1997: Research grant at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Budapest (Hungary) within an international CNR/MTA research project

- Sept. 1986 - Dec. 1986: Research grant at the Corrosion and Protection Centre of UMIST (University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology), Manchester (UK), to study corrosion phenomena on aluminum alloys in heat exchanger fluids (supported by the British Council).

- Sept. 1982 - Dec. 1982: Research Grant at Sulzer Geb., Winterthur (Switzerland), for a research activity on intergranular corrosion of new austenitic stainless steels.

- Feb. 1982 - Jul. 1982: Research Grant at Sulzer Geb., Winterthur (Switzerland), for a research activity on new electrochemical methods to evaluate the degree of sensitization to intergranular corrosion of austenitic stainless steels.

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Nov. 2018: National Scientific Abilitation to the position of Full Professor in Italian Universities, in the recruiting disciplinary field 09/D1.

- Dec. 2013: National Scientific Abilitation to the position of Full Professor in Italian Universities, in the recruiting disciplinary field 09/D1.

- The results of the Research Quality Evaluation (VQR) 2011-2014 indicate that the research products presented are excellent.

- The results of VQR 2004-2010 indicated that the ING-IND/22 research groups of the Ferrara university resulted the leader one in Italy (Table 4.9 from the document Tables of VQR results of Area 09).

 

RESEARCH ACTIVITY TOPICS

The research activity mainly concerned the study of corrosion and corrosion protection of metals.

In particular, the more recent research topics are the following ones:

- study of rebar corrosion behavior in traditional and innovative concretes

- development of protective coatings for metals of artistic and industrial interest

- corrosion inhibition by organic substances

- corrosion behaviour of biomedical and industrial alloys produced by Selective Laser Melting

- corrosion behaviour of industrial alloys in conditions relevant to their application

 

PARTECIPATION TO NATIONAL/INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH PROGRAMS

- (2020-2022) - UniFE Team Leader and Contact person for the Italian group for a 3 year European research project PROCRAFT (PROtection and Conservation of Heritage AirCRAFT) of the JPICH Conservation and Protection Call 2019 (start date 1 Nov, 2020)

- (2019-2021) – UniFE Team Leader of a regional  2014-2020 POR-FESR project “IMPReSA: Use of recycling plastic materials for light structural mortars and concretes”.

- (2019-2021) – UniFE participant to a regional 2014-2020 POR-FESR project “RIMMEL: RIvestimenti Multi-funzionali e multi-scala, per componenti MEccanici in acciaio e Leghe di alluminio fabbricati con additive manufacturing”.

- (2017-2019) - Participant in the European NESSIE project, "North Sea Solutions in Corrosion for Energy", as part of the EASME / EMFF / 2016 / 1.2.1.3 call - Blue Technology: Transfer of Innovative Solutions for the Sea Basin Economies.

- (2016-2017) – Participant in the regional project "NEW PROTECTIVE COATING TECHNOLOGIES. Eco-compliant pretreatments and paintings for die-cast aluminum" (collaboration with Azienda Neri Spa (Longiano (FC)) (Call for collaborative research and development projects for companies -POR-FESR 2014-2020)

- (2015-2017) - UniFE Team Leader of the 2 year European research project B-IMPACT (Bronze-IMproved non-hazardous PAtina CoaTings) of the M-ERA.NET Transnational Call 2013 (start date 1 March, 2015)

- (2011-2013) -Principal investigator of the national research project PRIN 2009: “Innovative methods for the conservation of gilded bronzes” (Participants: UniFE; UniBO; PoliMI; IFAC-CNR).

- (2013-2014) – UniFE Team Leader in a 2 year Project with title: "Preparation and Application of New Generation Controlled Release Corrosion Inhibitors for Concrete Reinforcing Steel Protection". Funding Source: Spanish Government, MINECO, CICYT, BIA2012-32320. Principal Investigator: David M. Bastidas.

- 2012 - UniFE Team Leader in a 1 year Project with title: "Study and Application of Selective Controlled Delivery Release Corrosion Inhibitors for Reinforced Concrete Structures". Funding Source: Spanish Government: MICINN, CICYT, BIA2011-27182. Principal Investigator: David M. Bastidas.

- (2002-2005) – Participant in the European research program BRONZART (related to Eureka EUROCARE Project).

- (1996-1999) – Participant in an international CNR/MTA research project (collaboration with RLMEC-CRC of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences).

- From 1984 to 2002, regular participation to research programs of national interest.

SCIENTIFIC/TECHNOLOGICAL TRANSFER ACTIVITY

- From 1983, member of the “A. Daccò” Corrosion and Metallurgy Centre (until 2008 named “A. Daccò” Corrosion Centre).

- Partecipation to the Materials group of TekneHub and to the Metallurgy, Corrosion and Polymeric materials group of Terra&Acqua Tech. Teknehub and Terra&Acqua Tech are Laboratories of the Tecnopolo di Ferrara which in turn belong to the High Technology Network of the Emilia Romagna Region.
