SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY
Prof. Simioni's research activity has mainly focused on the analysis of the intracellular mechanisms and pathways involved in the processes of proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis in different oncohematological cell models, in ex vivo samples of placentas or of patients with vascular diseases, particularly with viral etiology by Covid-19. The main areas of interest are outlined below:
-Innovative therapeutic approaches in onco-hematology: studies using leukemia cell models, particularly acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and solid tumor models such as hepatocarcinoma.
- Role of microRNAs in oncohematology: studies focused on microRNA analysis employing acute lymphoblastic leukemia cell lines and transgenic mouse models highly predisposed to the development of hepatocarcinoma. The present line of research currently also includes the search for circulating microRNAs in urinary and blood samples from cancer patients and long-term survivors.
- Analysis of clinical biomarkers associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection: studies aimed at characterizing gut-level damage in surgical patients operated in emergency and during SARS-CoV-2 infection and identifying biomarkers predictors of clinical outcomes.
