Alberto De Franceschi is Associate Professor of Private Law at the Department of Economics and Management of the University of Ferrara, where he teaches Private Law and Environmental Law and Intellectual Property Rights.

He is Member of the National University Council at the Ministry of University and Research, representing Area 12 - Legal Sciences.

Since October 2015 he is Chairman (first together with Prof. Reiner Schulze of the University of Münster and, currently, together with Prof. Christoph Busch of the University of Osnabrück) of the European Law Institute's Digital Law Special Interest Group (https://www.europeanlawinstitute.eu/hubs-sigs/sigs/digital-law-sig/).

He acted as a consultant to the Italian Ministry of Justice in the legislative process for the adoption of EU Directives 2019/770 on the supply of digital content and digital services, and 2019/771/EU on the sale of goods.

He is founding member and co-editor of the «Journal of European Consumer and Market Law» (C.H. Beck, Munich / Kluwer Law International, Alphen aan den Rijn / Nomos, Baden-Baden) and of «The Italian Law Journal» (Edizioni Scientifiche Italiane, Napoli).

His research focuses on Italian and European Law of Obligation and Contracts, with particular attention to topics of Law of the Digital Economy.

 

Education

Alberto obtained his Law Degree from the University of Padova and his PhD in Law of Obligations and Contracts from the University of Ferrara.

In 2008, 2010, 2012 e 2013 he was scholarship holder (for 29 months) of the Max Planck Society at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition in Munich.

In 2013 e 2014 he was Visiting Research Fellow at the Institute of European and Comparative Law of the University of Oxford.

In 2015, 2016 and 2017 he was Research Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität of Munich.

In 2019 he was Visiting Fellow at the Law Department of the European University Institute, Florence.

 

Awards

Ladislao Mittner Award 2015 'In aknowledgement of outstanding achievements in legal scholarship and of special merits regarding the cultural dialogue between Italy and Germany'.
