Dr. Nicola Marchetti was born on March 23, 1976 in Ferrara (Italy)

He got enrolled at the University of Ferrara from 1996 and in 2001 he received a B.S. degree in Chemistry (major in analytical chemistry-physical chemistry).

In 2005 he received a Ph.D. degree in Chemical Sciences from University of Ferrara with a dissertation entitled "Multidimensional, multicomponent separations under linear and nonlinear conditions" (Advisor: Prof.. Francesco Dondi). During the Ph.D. course he was visiting and collaborating with internationally established scientist: Prof. Georges Guiochon, The University of Tennessee (Knoxville, TN, USA); Prof. Attila Felinger, University of Veszprem (Hungary); Prof. Pier Giorgio Righetti, University of Verona (Italy).

In 2005 he worked for SnamProgetti S.p.A. (Eni Group) in the Multy-society Petrochemical site of Ferrara where he was responsible for the environmental air monitoring activities for quality control (heavy hydrocarbons (C>12) and air-borne solid particles) during clean-up and soil remediation procedures.

Later he worked shortly for the Network Laboratories L.A.R.A. as Post-doctoral research fellow.

In 2006 and 2007 he moved to USA (The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN) as postdoc research associate in Prof. Georges Guiochon laboratories: during these two years he mainly worked on HPLC separation of complex mixtures, evaluation of innovative stationary phases for packed column and implementation of one and two-dimensional separation systems in liquid chromatography for achievement of high peak capacity separations.

From 2008 to 2010 he was employed at University of Ferrara as Contract Research Assistant: he was in charge of organization and activities in the HPLC-MS laboratory. During those years he also received a teaching contract for the laboratory of analytical chemistry (integrated course of chemistry, biotechnologies).

From August 2010 he is Temporary Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry (University of Ferrara) for the Terra&Acqua Tech Laboratory of the high technology network for Emilia-Romagna (Technopole of Ferrara).

Since 2005 he is also involved in other teaching activities for the 1st level Master (MaSTeM, Master in Science, Technology and Management), giving lectures on Fundamentals of Mass Spectromety (instrumentation and hyphenation with liquid chromatography for Environmental analysis) and application of LC/MS methods of analysis in environmental analytical chemistry.

Other professional activities comprise peer review service for several journals (Chromatographia, Analytical Chemistry, Journal of Chromatography, ) and the award as young researcher (2012) received by the interdivisional group of Separation Sciences of the Italian Chemical Society.
