Piero Gianolla obtained a PhD degree at the Padua University (V series) and currently he has a Full Professor position at the Dept. of Physics and Earth Sciences of University of Ferrara. His main research topics are: 1) sequence stratigraphic methodologies; 2) Triassic stratigraphy of the Tethyan Domain; 3) sedimentology of carbonate platforms and mixed basins; 4) paleoclimatology of Triassic; 5) Geoheritage.
He is involved in several mapping projects in the Alps and in different projects dealing with the definition and conservation of geological Heritage in Italy and Europe. He is author and/or co-author of several publications in national or international scientific reviews. He was also organizer of several meetings, workshops and excursions about the Triassic Stratigraphy and the geology of the Dolomites.
He has taught numerous undergraduate and master's degree courses and has been supervisor of numerous bachelor's degree projects, master's thesis and tutor of 8 PhD students. He has lectured in Master's and postgraduate courses in Ferrara and elsewhere. From 2018 he is president of the CU of Scienze Geologiche (UNIFE).
From September 2021 he is President of the Italian Commission of Stratigraphy (CIS)
