Fabio Donato, Ph. D. in Business Administration at the University of Pisa in 1997 with a Ph.D. Thesis on Environmental Management Systems, is Professor of Business Administration at the University of Ferrara, where he is Lecturer in "Business Administration" and "Public Management" as well as Director of the MuSeC(Master Course in Cultural Management).

Currently on temporary leave: since May 2017 he has been appointed as the Italian Counsellor for Research and Innovation at the Permanent Representation of Italy to the EU in Brussels

Since May 2017 he has been the Italian Counsellor for Research and Innovation at the Permanent Representation of Italy to the EU in Brussels.

From 2015 to 2017 he has been Member of the "Consiglio Superiore per i Beni Culturali e Paesaggistici, Economics and Management of culture" (Committee for Cultural Heritage and Cultural landscapes)at the Italian Ministry for Culture.

From 2015 to 2017 he has been the President of the Scientific Committee "Musei e Economia della Cultura" (Museums and Cultural Management and Economics) at the Italian Ministry for Culture.

From 2013 to 2017 he has been the Italian Representative in the Horizon 2020 configuration "Europe in a changing world: inclusive, innovative and reflective societies" at the European Commission, Brussels.

From 2012 to 2015 he has been as Deputy Director of the Department of Economics and Management at the University of Ferrara.

From 2010 to 2013 he has been Director of the Doctoral School in Societal Sciences and Humanities at the University of Ferrara.

From 2009 to 2016 he has been Board member at ENCATC (European Network on Cultural Management and Policy).

Since 2007 he has been Full Professor of Business Administration at the University of Ferrara.

From 2001 to 2007 he has been Associate Professor of Business Administration at the University of Ferrara.

His research in the field of cultural management has been presented in several seminars and conferences in Europe, Asia, USA.
He has published more than 80 publications on the subjects of Public Management and Cultural Management
He has taught seminars and courses' modules in the following academic institutions:

- University of Ahmedabad, India.
- Universitat de Barcelona (UB) Spain.

Since 2017 he has been a member of the scientific committee of the “Journal of Cultural Management and Policy”.From 2011 to 2016 he has been the editor of the “Journal of Cultural Management and Policy”.
Since 2017 member of the scientific committee of the MSc in Arts and Cultural Management, Burgundy Business School in Dijon.
He is also a member of the scientific committee in many national scientific journals: “Management Control”; “Azienda Pubblica”; “Il Capitale Culturale”; "Collana di Studi Aziende pubbliche e imprenditorialità sociale"; "Collana di Studi Economia delle aziende e delle amministrazioni pubbliche".
