Since 2014 he has been a member of the National Board of "ProArch" Scientific Society of University Professors of Architectural Design, active in the Scientific Disciplinary Sectors Icar14 / 15/16.

Since 1992 he has been teaching and doing research at the Faculty of Architecture of Ferrara. Since 1999 Assistant Professor of Architectural and urban design, Polytechnic of Turin and, since 2004, Department of Architecture, University of Ferrara. In 2014 he was recognized as Associated Professor in the same scientific field.
Since 2005, Director of ArcDes - Laboratory for Development of Integrated Architectural Design Programs for City, Environment, Landscape of the Department of Architecture, University of Ferrara.
Since 2005 to 2018 he was responsible for the University of Ferrara and member of the Steering Committee of the inter-university Master's Degree in "Conservation, management and enhancement of industrial heritage", as well as scientific responsible, with other professors, of the didactic module in "Design methods for urban and architectural renovation of industrial heritage".
Since 2008 to 2013 he was lecturer at the Erasmus Mundus Master TPTI Techniques, Patrimoine, Territoires de l'Industrie. Histoire, Valorisation, Didactique, Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (France), University of Evora (Portugal), Université de Padoue (Italie).
Since 2006 to 2013 he was member of PhD Academic Board in Architectural Technology, University of Ferrara, curriculum "Methodologies of architectural design and construction," since 2013 is member of the Academic Board of the International Doctorate Architecture and Urban Planning IDAUP, University of Ferrara and POLIS University Tirana.
Since 2010, he carries out research activities as scientific responsible of Area 2 "Tools, materials and techniques for museum and exhibition design", as part of TekneHub, Tecnopolo Ferrara, Emilia Romagna Region High Technology Network. Since 2009 to 2012 he was member of the management Committee of the Museum and Archival System of the University of Ferrara.
Since 1996 he is member of the editorial board of the international magazine "Area", in which he published essays, articles and a regular column dedicated to design competitions. Since 1997 he is director of the series "Moments of contemporary architecture", Alinea, Firenze.
He is author or editor of three hundred articles, essays and books dedicated to design methodologies, particularly focused on cases of transformation of existing buildings and architectural heritage, and to the relation between historic town and contemporary architecture.
It was winner, with other designers, of national and international architectural and urban competitions, including the "International competition for the New Auditorium of Padua."
Since 1993, he designs some realized buildings, published in books, exhibition catalogs and various architectural magazine as “Area”, “Il progetto”, “Almanacco di Casabella”, “d’A d’Architettura”, “Paesaggio urbano”, including some contemporary museums, such as Pescheria Nuova, Casa Museo Giacomo Matteotti, Palazzo Roncale.
