His research activities mainly revolve around separation science, particularly liquid chromatography, and chromatographic-like techniques. They include a variety of theoretical, experimental, and applied aspects of:
- fundamentals of mass transfer in porous media;
- molecular recognition mechanisms;
- analytical and preparative liquid chromatography for the purification and preparation of highly valued molecules;
- stationary phase characterization and development (including chiral stationary phases);
- purification of large biomolecules (therapeutic peptides, oligonucleotides, etc.) through innovative countercurrent multicolumn continuous approaches.
More recently, his research interests have included the field of omics science particularly exposomics, from the analytical chemistry viewpoint.
